Mehrdad Faraji (b. 1998 Tehran) approaches drawing and sculpture through a sustained process of shaping, layering and removing material. Working with graphite, paper and wood, he treats the formation of a surface
and the shaping of a volume as closely related processes, each developing through repeated acts of addition and subtraction.
His monochromatic works carry the marks of time and physical labor. Through scraping and repeated layering, Faraji creates reflective surfaces reminiscent of polished metal, whose appearance shifts with changes
in light, movement and the surrounding environment. Rather than remaining visually fixed, these surfaces reveal different states as the conditions around them change.
In 2026, Faraji presented “Saturation”, his first solo exhibition, at O Gallery in Tehran.
